2004 Sydney International Boat Show
press release...

Not a Mass Trans-Tasman Migration, perhaps, but more than 2000 Kiwis are Expected to head for Australia and the 2004 Sydney International Boat Show
4th July 2004

The Sydney International Boast Show, regarded as the biggest and best recreational boating exhibition in the Southern Hemisphere, is scheduled for July 29 - August 3 and is sponsored by Club Marine and the Waterways Authority.

Why 2000-plus Kiwis?

According to Domenic Genua, marketing and event manager for show organisers the Boating Industry Association of NSW, past experience has clearly shown that at least 2000 New Zealanders seem to find their way to Sydney and then to Darling Harbour, the show's venue on the city's western doorstep.

"Of course, that figure, 2000-plus, applies to show visitors", Genua explained.

"We play host to many more New Zealanders from within the boating industry who are not counted as show visitors, people from Salthouse Marine and the NZ distributors for The Riviera Group, for example.

"I might point out that there are a number of prominent identities in the Australian boating industry who are New Zealand-born. But have lived in Australia for many years."

This year's show is shaping up to be one of the best on record.

It boasts the largest marina ever assembled for an Australian boat show, with more than 230 luxury vessels, while the six vast halls of the adjoining Darling Harbour Exhibition Centre will be jam packed with all manner of trailer boats, engines, electronics, fishing tackle and general boating accessories.

The Yamaha Fishing Clinic will again prove a popular attractions as will the daily fashion parades and the Boat Building Competition.

A show highlight will be the opportunity to see two world releases; Bill Barry-Cotter, the man who built The Riviera Group into an industry giant, will unveil his newest creation, the luxurious Maritimo long-range motor yachts, while Seawind Catamarans will launch the all-new 1160 Catamaran, with 12 orders already to hand for the boat.

The show will be open daily, 10am to 8pm, with admission charges ranging from A$38 (family ticket admitting two adults and up to three children aged 6-17-years) to A$15 (single adult).

For those unfamiliar with Sydney, the Darling Harbour boat show site is only a short downhill stroll from the city centre and is well served by all manner of public transport.
