Volvo Penta's Treat for Sydney International Boat Show Visitors
16th July 2004
Famed marine engine manufacturer, Volvo Penta, will be hosting a major launch of new engines at the Sydney International Boat Show, offering visitors the opportunity to be among the first in the world to see the 2005 model year powerplants.
The show, sponsored by Club Marine and the Waterways Authority, is set to open on July 29 for six action-filled days celebrating recreational boating.
Like many of the boating world's major manufacturers, Volvo Penta recognises the importance of the show as a vehicle for launching new products.
Only Volvo Penta engineers and Swedish-based media will have beaten boat show visitors to the punch in seeing the new D9 500hp and 575hp marine diesel engines.
Graeme Avers, of Eastern Engine, Volvo Penta's main man in Australia, claims the company continues to "set new standards" for marine propulsion systems. "And we will continue to set new standards beyond 2005," he declared.
The Volvo Penta launch is one of many exciting projects set to be unveiled at the Sydney show.
Domenic Genua, marketing and event manager for show organisers, the Boating Industry Association of NSW, said new boats and new boating products dominated this year's show.
"We have a number of boats and products being released that have never previously been seen in public," he said. "The 2004 show is primed to be one out of the proverbial box, and among other attractions boasts the largest marina ever specifically assembled for an Australian boat show.
"Daily fashion parades, an impressive Strictly Sail exhibit, the popular Boat Building Competition and the Yamaha Fishing Clinic, always a major drawcard, will all combine to deliver an interesting day out for the expected 90,000 or so visitors."
One show highlight is sure to be the first NSW appearance of the recent winners in the prestigious Boats of the Year awards.
Those on display at Sydney include Powercat Marine's 2600 Sports Cabriolet catamaran, named all round Boat of the Year; the Cobalt 220 Bowrider, Imported Trailerable Boat of the Year; the 250 Four Winns, Imported Non-Trailerable Boat of the Year; the majestic Riviera 51 Convertible, Non-Trailerable Cruiser of the Year and the Belgian-built ETAP 37, awarded a Commendation as Imported Sailboat of the Year.
Within the six vast halls of the Darling Harbour Exhibition Centre, more than 300 exhibitors displaying their goods and services have ensured the need for the "house full" sign. "Our members have really come out in support of this year's show and we're in a position to promise visitors an exhibition to remember," Genua added.
The expansive Cockle Bay Marina will be the setting for more than 230 luxury vessels, the largest "fleet" ever seen at the world-renowned Sydney show.
Displays include the finest craft from the cream of the world's manufacturers, with legendary names such as Princess, Sea Ray, Sunseeker, Beneteau, Fairline, Catalina,
Boston Whaler and Bayliner.
Australia's own top manufacturers will be prominent, with The Riviera Group, Mustang Cruisers, Sunrunner and Sydney Yachts all staging first class exhibits.
Two Australian companies will be undertaking world releases; Maritimo, the luxury, long-range motor yachts from the drawing board of industry legend Bill Barry-Cotter will be revealed to the world for the first time, as will the all-new multihull from Seawind Catamarans, the 1160 Seawind.
Everything is in readiness for a gala extravaganza highlighting the thrills of recreational boating.
The show will be open daily, 10am to 8pm.
Admission charges are $15 (single adult), $38 (family ticket admitting two adults and up to three children aged 6-17-years), $10 (Aged Pensioners) and $8 (children aged 6-17-years).
Children under 5-years admitted free.
