Olympic Champion Samantha Riley to Appear at Sydney International Boat Show
19th July 2004

Samantha Riley, former Olympic, World & Commonwealth swimming champion and newly appointed ambassador for Australia's market leading brand of Personal Watercraft -Sea-Doo® will be appearing at the Sydney International Boat Show, Darling Harbour Exhibition Centre on Friday 30th and Saturday 31st of July.

Ms Riley will be meeting the public, signing autographs and promoting responsible riding of personal watercrafts (PWC's) in and around Sydney waterways at the Sea-Doo® stand.

"I'm looking forward to attending the Sydney International Boat Show. I love Sydney and it will be a great opportunity to meet the public and educate them on safe and responsible PWC riding," explains Sea-Doo® ambassador Samantha Riley.

Ms Riley represents the new demographic of Sea-Doo Personal Watercraft owners and families who want to have good clean fun on the water.

"Sam is a role model for all Personal Watercraft (PWC) riders and we're delighted that she has joined the Sea-Doo team helping us to encourage PWC riders to be responsible, boat smart, aware of the rules on the water and respect other waterway users," Bombardier Recreational Products Executive Director, David Heyes said today.

Mr Heyes said Ms Riley fits in perfectly with the Sea-Doo customer demographic which has seen a shift in the past five years.

"The average age of most Personal Watercraft buyers has increased by some 10 years and today buyers are more than likely to be married with a family," he said.

"As a result, the industry has seen an emergence in popularity of the three-seater watercraft, where families can recreate on the waterways together, whether it is touring, wakeboarding or water-skiing, it is an affordable way to enjoy water sports."

Ms Riley said working with the Sea-Doo team was exciting: "I love anything to do with the water. This new role is a natural fit for me - and I also enjoy riding my own Sea-Doo. It's safe to ride, environmentally friendly and very quiet."

Ms Riley's greatest achievements include three Olympic medals (Silver and Bronze 1996, Bronze 1992), two World Championship Gold Medals, five Commonwealth Games Medals (four Gold) and nine Pan Pacific Games Medals. She has also set three World and two Commonwealth Records in Breaststroke.

Other career achievements include: Medal of the Order of Australia, Prime Ministerial Award - Female athlete of the year, Mobil Sports Personality of the Year, Telstra Female athlete of the Year, Highest Achievement Medal - Australian Sporting Hall of Fame, US Swimming Magazine World Female of the Year.

Ms Riley and husband Tim Fydler celebrated the birth of their first child, Isaac, in May 2003.
