There's no better way to learn than joining the experts and the Boating Industry Association of NSW, organiser of the annual Sydney International Boat Show has gathered together some of the most renowned names in angling for the now famous Yamaha Fishing Clinic, one of the most popular attractions ever introduced at the show.
The 38th Sydney International Boat Show is set to open on Thursday, July 28 and will be drawing the crowds through to the following Tuesday, August 2.
More than 300 exhibitors comprising the industry's leading manufacturers, distributors and importers will be showing off the best boats and associated equipment available, many products making their public debut.
Sponsored by Club Marine and NSW Maritime, the show will see all six halls of the vast Darling Harbour Exhibition Centre packed to the proverbial rafters with millions of dollars worth of boats, engines, marine electronics, fishing tackle, 'skis and 'boards, nautical fashion and general boating accessories.
The adjoining Cockle Bay Marina will be home to more than 270 luxury vessels, power and sail, and will as usual be a major show drawcard.
For anglers, the Yamaha Fishing Clinic, already recognised as the best "school" of its type on the boat show calendar, will remain one of the prime reasons to visit the show.
With well-known broadcaster and television personality Mike Bailey as master of ceremonies, the presentations and activities of the clinic will operate all day, every day of the show.
Domenic Genua, Marketing and Event Manager of the Boating Industry Association of NSW, was not kidding when he said the clinic was made up of angling experts.
It could only be described as " a gold medal team", captained by none other than Dick Lewers, a genuine "angling guru" and often referred to as "the father of Aussie sportfishing." 'Captain Dick's' team comprises columnist and broadcaster Bruce Schumacher, noted rod designer/builder Ian Miller, land-based game fishing expert Phil Atkinson, author and game fishing record holder Tim Simpson, 'Bassmaster' and casting champion John Bethune and the entertaining duo Steve Starling and his long-time mate 'Buschy.' A major plus for the clinic this year is the appearance of Brian Anson-Smith and the Yamaha Supertank, complete with the famous 'performing fish.'
Each of the experts will present a wide variety of topics related to various forms of angling and for clinic visitors there will be the opportunity to 'get up close and personal' at question time. The clinic is just one reason why lovers of the great outdoors should visit the Sydney International Boat Show.
Daily fashion parades showcasing the latest nautical-themed sportswear, educational Better Boating workshops, the always humorous and definitely educational Boat Building Competition and the Strictly Sail exhibit are all major attractions in their own right.
Perhaps the icing on the cake for many will be the opportunity in NSW to see first hand the winners in the recent Australian Marine Industry Federation (AMIF) annual Marine Awards, incorporating the prestigious Boats of the Year honours.
For dedicated anglers, keen boaters or those simply seeking an interest-packed day on the Sydney waterfront, the Sydney International Boat Show is one of those "must do" attractions.
The show will be open daily, 10am to 8pm (halls and marina). Admission prices are $17 (single adult), $40 (family ticket admitting two adults and up to three children aged 6-17-years), $15 (Seniors Card holders), $11 (Pensioners) and $9 (children aged 6-17-years). Children under 5-years admitted free.
