It will be Darling Harbour with a slight difference come August 2-7, with the world-renowned Sydney International Boat Show celebrating its 40th edition.

Organiser, the Boating Industry Association of NSW, is pulling out all stops in its endeavour to ensure the 40th show will be one to remember.

Sponsored by Club Marine Insurance and NSW Maritime, the show has already attracted sell-out status as far as exhibitors are concerned; all six halls of the vast Darling Harbour Exhibition Centre, totalling more than 28,000 square metres, will be packed to the proverbial rafters with millions of dollars worth of boats, engines, marine electronics, fishing tackle, nautical clothing and general boating accessories.

On the waters of Cockle Bay, only a few minutes stroll from the centre, a record number of luxury craft have booked space on the spectacular Walcon floating marina.

The marina displays will feature boating’s prominent names from Australian and offshore manufacturers; Sunseeker, Maritimo, Azimut, Beneteau, The Riviera Group, Fairline, Sydney Yachts, Princess, Grand Banks, Sea Ray, Jeanneau, Bavaria, Boston Whaler, Regal, Sunrunner, Seawind, the list is seemingly endless.

Trailerboat fans will delight in the extensive displays within the exhibition centre, where companies such as Haines Hunter, Cruise Craft, Signature, Horizon, Quintrex, Stacer, Mustang Pleasure Boats, Stejcraft, Bayliner, Maxum, Savage and Powercat will be showing off their latest and greatest.

While the show is, naturally enough, all about boats, it easily rates as an entertainment spectacular with a wide range of attractions with appeal to all in the family.

The Yamaha Fishing Clinic, daily fashion parades by Musto, and the popular Boat Building Competition (staged on the Saturday) are among the prime drawcards.

Domenic Genua, marketing and event manager for the Boating Industry Association, said a range of informative and entertaining workshops would run throughout the show.

“We have appointed dot com companies Sail-World and Powerboat-World to coordinate these and prominent guest speakers will cover a range of boating related subjects via the Strictly Sail and Better Boating Workshop displays,” he explained.

A score of new products, including boats, engines and related equipment will be unveiled during the show.

Scheduled for August 2-7, the show will be open daily at 10am; the halls will remain open until 8pm, but operations on the marina will cease at 6pm.

Admission charges are $18 (single adult), $42 (family ticket admitting two adults and up to three children aged 6-17 years), $16 (Seniors Card holders), $12 (Pensioners) and $10 (children aged 6-17 years); five years and under admitted free.
