Nautitech 44 Catamaran at the Sydney International Boat Show

18 June 2007

The eagerly awaited Australian Debut of the Mortain/Mavrikios designed Nautitech 44 Catamaran is set to happen at the Sydney International Boat Show.

Nautitech is a relatively new (2002) Company which has drawn its technical and construction heads from some of the best yacht builders in France.

New Factories in La Rochelle build the N40 and N44 while the N47 is built in Lorient, Brittany.
Technical details of the show boat N44 are
length 13.47
WL 12.20
Beam 6.8
Draft 1.20
Fixed skegs
Unladen 9.2t
Bridge deck clearance 0.8m
Main 65m2
Jib 65m2
Water 800l
Fuel 2X200l
Engines 2X 40HP
Construction infused sandwich polyester/GRP

The new N44 was tested by Multihulls World en route to the Cannes Boat Show and the writer spoke of 8 knots into a chop under power at cruising revs, and 8.2 knots under sail, at 50 degrees to the apparent wind of 12 knots. Sea lumpy. Bearing away slightly into a nasty short frontal sea, speed climbed to 8.8 knots in 20 knots of pressure. This would indicate that Nautitech have got it right with this range of fast cruising cats.

The Nautitech is highly maneuverable, tacks well and accelerates in a few boat lengths without freeing the main.
Standard sails are by Incedences in Dacron and look very good. Both Charter and private owners versions are available.

The three cabin version has two cabins in the port hull with two bathrooms and the starboard hull is taken up totally by the owners cabin with a very comfortable bathroom and separate shower. An office and lounge area complete this layout.

This easily sailed, high quality, medium priced range of Catamarans from France will have a lot of appeal to the Australian yachting family for both private ownership and to charter, you can expect to see one in an anchorage near you soon.
