The New Pilot Saloon 47
12 July 2008
Since 1965 Wauquiez has taken pride in building limited production yachts that are comfortable, fast and reliable for discerning sailors.
The Pilot Saloon 47 in the Wauquiez Pilot Saloon range keep the same characteristics and advancing further the ideas of sailing performance, handsome looks and comfort in harbour and at sea.
The designers Wauquiez and Berret/Racoupeau Yacht Design have paid special attention to a number of innovations in terms of comfort, building technique, ease of handling and performance.
The quality put into the construction of the pilot saloon 47 is exceptional and suits the blue water cruising program. The Pilot Saloon 47 has a balsa sandwich hull built with the infusion process which provides an optimum resin/fibre ratio. The structure is one piece glass and bonded to the hull bottom.
Wauquiez has developed an innovative, functional and luxurious interior for the Pilot Saloon 47. It has a rich and spacious one level deck saloon which provides panoramic 360 degree vision from saloon for its crew whether they are sitting or standing. All of the interior woodwork is made entirely from Burma teak and there are numerous opening ports fitted on the side windows that provide cross ventilation and add further comfort. The pilot saloon boasts teak side decks and high quality deck fittings which add to the sheer elegance and style of this blue water cruising yacht.
The sailing performance and ease of handling is exceptional in the Pilot Saloon 47 due to a number of important choices.
Sail plan: The genoa overlap is limited to provide more power for the mainsail and the furling staysail.
Hull lines: An important well carried beam and a bulb lead keel make the Pilot Saloon 47 a stiff sailing yacht.
Rigging: Pilot Saloon 47 is equipped with a 9/10 rig, without running backstays and with wide, angled spreaders. Stability is increased by the upper shrouds chainplates fitted on the hull, so as to benefit from a lighter mast section.
