Collision Avoidance and Staying Afloat
12 July 2008
Icom the World leader in Marine communications, will shortly introduce yet another innovation in Marine Safety.
Icom was the first to offer affordable VHF Marine Radios with Digital Selective Calling alarms, as standard.
Now the IC-M505, Icoms award winning VHF Marine Transceiver now comes with AIS. (IC-M505AIS).
The Automatic Identification System (AIS) is a collision avoidance system that is compulsory on all commercial ships. The transponders used on these vessels typically transmit the vessels: Name, Speed/Heading, & MMSI number, etc.
The AIS unit receives this information from ships within VHF radio range & displays the information on a chart plotter or PC. Small craft can now use this information to alter course & avoid potentially disastrous situations while hailing the ship by name/DSC if necessary.
Icom, also offer another safety innovation the Worlds first floating VHF Marine handheld: the top selling IC-M33.
Please visit Hall 1, Stand 156 at the Sydney International Boat Show to learn more about AIS & see the complete Icom VHF & HF range on display.
