Legendary Model Name Makes a Comeback at the Sydney International Boat Show
22nd July 2003

J.J.Savage and Sons, the Williamtown, Victoria, boat building icon established in 1898 and now going from strength to strength under the ownership of Mercury Marine, is set to unveil a new model with an old name at the Sydney show.

Ranger, one of the company's best-known and most popular models, has been brought back to the market place in the form of the Savage SL Ranger 480, a classic runabout requiring only 75hp to perform to its capacity. Four major dealerships, Andrew Short Marine, Watersports Marine, Leisure Coast Marine and Middle Harbour Marine will each be displaying several examples of the new range from Savage Boats.

The all-new Ranger SL 480 is aimed fairly and squarely at the family boater, easily capable of accommodating up to five aboard and suitable for picnicking, fishing, even a dash of skiing or wakeboarding. Built in the manner perfected by Savage, with a fibreglass deck and cockpit on a stylish aluminium hull, the new Ranger offers versatility and, according to the makers, "a lot of boat for the dollar".

The hull is built to take whatever punishment Mother Nature cares to hand out, with additional ribs, continuous seam welding, slotted keel and extruded chines. For added safety, closed-cell foam buoyancy is built in beneath the floor. The Sydney International Boat Show sees many new marine products launched; it's a fair bet the new release of an old and honoured name will create plenty of interest.
